What is this model?

This model captures the progression from ideation (explore) to fruition (optimize). While the process may appear linear, it is inherently cyclical, with each layer supporting and influencing the others. Some stages may be bypassed or revisited depending on the company’s resources or priorities.

Contextual Research

Primary Goal:
In this phase, the primary goal is to establish product purpose, viability, and solution landscape.

Mindsets:
It's imperative the organization is aligned and remain as open minded as possible. Many businesses fail when pursuing predefined ideas of success in comparison to consumer expectations.

Key Activities:

• Get Involved: What are we doing? Why are we doing it and How are we going to pull this off?
Conduct user research (e.g., interviews, surveys, ethnographic studies).

• Analyze competitors and market trends.

• Define the core problem to solve and identify unmet needs.

• Generate hypotheses for potential solutions.

The conversion from Explore to Design shifts from gathering insights to creating solutions. During Explore, research uncovers user needs, pain points, and business goals.

These findings are then converted into actionable design concepts, where the Design team develops user personas, journey maps, and wireframes that translate research into a user-centered product strategy.

The big bang

Primary Goal:
In this phase, the team needs to define user experinences and define technical feasibility.

Mindsets:
It is essential to keep the resource origin dialogue open, The design team must understand client expectations and reasons why.

Key Activities:

• Develop Sketches and wireframes of possible solutions

• Low & High Fidelity Prototyping

• Creating Marketing and Branding

• Generate hypotheses for potential solutions.

The conversion from Design to Build transitions from design concepts to product development. In the Design phase, detailed UI mockups, interaction patterns, and visual designs are created.

Build

Primary Goal:
Here the development team, builds the product based on the design specifications, ensuring functionality matches the intended user experience while addressing technical requirements.

Mindsets:
Design specification documents should be communicated for the development of a product. The Design and development team should keep channels of communication fluid in this phase.

Key Activities:

•Feasibility

• Feature Prioritization

• A/B Testing

• MVP.

The conversion from Build to Optimize happens once the product is live. After development is complete, the product enters the Optimize phase, where real user data and feedback guide improvements.

Repeat

Primary Goal:
This phase focuses on refining the product’s performance, fixing bugs, and iterating on features to enhance usability, engagement, and overall effectiveness. Given user feedback we optiimize the product by repeating the process.
